$2 bill turns into $1 million Powerball prize winner

CHARLOTTE, NC (WGHP) — A $2 bill changed one person’s life forever after Saturday’s Powerball draw.

The lucky ticket was purchased at a Harris Teeter on South Tryon Street in Charlotte. The lucky ticket corresponded to the numbers of the five white balls, or only 1 chance out of 11.6 million.

The winner now has 180 days to claim their prize.

The Powerball jackpot continues to grow and now stands at $89 million in annuity prizes or $51.7 million in cash.

The Mega Millions draw will take place on Tuesday and an absurd jackpot of half a billion dollars awaits the lucky winner. The total Mega Millions jackpot now stands at $530 million in annuity prizes and $304.7 million in cash.

The prize has been steadily growing since April and is now the eighth biggest jackpot ever in gaming history.

Players can purchase Powerball or Mega Millions tickets at any lottery store, through online play on the lottery’s website, or by using the official NC Lottery mobile app.

The sale of raffle game tickets allows the lottery to raise approximately $2.5 million per day for education. For more details on how the money raised by the lottery made a difference in all 100 counties in North Carolina last year, visit nclottery.com/impact.
