We’re ready to take this game to the next level and need a passionate Director, Horse Racing to lead the development and build key relationships between OLG and the horse racing industry. As key relationship manager for industry, the role partners with government and industry stakeholders to influence policy, support market and customer growth, and develop strategies for long-term sustainability horse racing in the province of Ontario.


Reporting to the VP, Horse Racing & Casino Operations, you will be empowered to:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for industry engagement and the development of mutually beneficial strategies and approaches for the long-term sustainability of the horse racing industry.
  • Lead, influence and strategically position key issues and information for all levels of various government and industry audiences.
  • Provide leadership in managing and monitoring contracted party compliance with contractual terms, obligations and milestones, in addition, monitoring multi-contract interdependencies for compliance and impacts.
  • Enable industry success through the removal of barriers created by policies affecting the sector and provide recommendations to change policy or address stakeholder concerns.
  • Build a collaborative and strategic relationship with horse racing industry associations and/or racetracks to ensure business processes and day-to-day business operations meet established performance goals.
  • Define and approve marketing and product objectives that align with OLG’s overall vision for the department and the enduring success of the horse racing industry.
  • Provide leadership in the production of strategy papers, briefing papers and briefing notes for presentation to various audiences, including the Vice President, Horse Racing and Casino Operations, Chief Business Development Officer and Institutional Gaming, the CEO, members of the management team, the OLG Board of Directors, the horse racing industry, the AGCO and government departments.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental governing documents, including liaising with the department in the management of industry agreements.
  • Resolve all issues/disputes that are escalated on an ongoing basis to ensure timely resolution while minimizing risk to OLG.
  • Lead the horse racing team in managing all OLG activities supporting the industry.


Professional experience: 10 years of related experience, including 5-7 years in a business relationship management role and/or in a relevant industry experienced in strategic relationship management. Understanding and experience of government policy development and decision-making processes. Experience in a range of business-related activities including finance, marketing, stakeholder relations, strategy, communications, etc. Experience influencing strategic outcomes in a regulated and compliance-based environment. Experience in the horse racing industry would be an asset

Education: University degree (preferably a business degree). MBA would be considered an asset

Critical Skills: Strategic relationship management techniques and understanding of specific business and legal language and activities. Strong people leadership, spanning the full spectrum of workforce planning, hiring, development, performance and termination. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including a professional business manner with the ability to handle complex confidential/sensitive matters with discretion and diplomacy. Advanced decision-making ability and ability to identify, prioritize and resolve business and emerging issues with key stakeholders

Licenses, Registrations, Certificates: AGCO Category 1 Gaming Assistant Registration (initiated at offer stage – employment is conditional on obtaining and maintaining this license)
