Two lanes were closed between St Helens and Warrington due to the crash, with four miles of traffic approaching Junction 6. At one point national highways experienced delays of over an hour average travel time.

Delays continued after emergency services helped those involved in the crash as crash recovery work took place following an oil spill. The Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service also attended the accident, but their services were not required.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7am on Monday June 20, police were called to a collision on the M62 between Junction Seven and Junction Eight.

“The collision reportedly involved four vehicles. Three people reportedly suffered minor injuries and were treated by paramedics. All lanes have since reopened.”
