Three detained in Ludhiana for running illegal lottery business : The Tribune India

Ludhiana, September 7

Police yesterday arrested three people accused of running illegal lotteries and seized money in their possession. Cases under the Gambling Act and the Lotteries Act have been filed against the suspects.

Police Division 2 arrested Harvinder Singh of Amarpura for running an illegal lottery and seized Rs 43,360 in cash in his possession. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Investigator Jagtar Singh said the suspect was arrested on the way to Civil Hospital. The police also tried to catch lottery buyers, but they managed to give the slip to the police group.

Kotwali Police arrested Sahib Siddiqui from Jalandhar Bypass area and recovered Rs 2,790 in cash from his possession. ASI Investigator Lakhwinder Singh said that following a tip, a raid was carried out at Meena Bazaar from where the suspect was arrested. A cell phone, which the suspect used to run an illegal lottery business, was also seized.

In another incident, Moti Nagar Police grabbed Dalip Kumar from Chandigarh Road and recovered Rs 850 from him. Police said the suspect was selling illegal lotteries to people from Transport Nagar and was caught in the act.
